Reading Counts
Reading Counts is an independent reading program developed by Scholastic. It is a computer program that combines independent reading practice and software-based reading assessment. At library time, your child will check out 1-2 books based on their reading level. The Reading Counts book should have a colored sticker on the spine and the lexile level (reading level) on the inside of the book. The Reading Counts book(s) should be practiced at home, but theReading Counts book(s) should be kept in their backpack so students can hace the book(s) at school to practice.
When your child is ready he/she will need to take a Reading Counts test on the book(s), A Reading Counts test is on the computer, it consists of 5 or 10 multiple choice questions about the book. Your child will need to let me know when he/she is ready to take a Reading Counts test. I will let you know when your child will begin Reading Counts Tests. Your child will be expected to take 1 Reading Counts test a week. Reading with and to your child is so important. It's importatnt to ask questions about the stories, to make sure your child is comprehending what is read.
These books should be written in your child's reading log.
